RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Milan Jotanovic, who was named All-American five times while at Manhattan College, will be in action at the 2011 IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea on Wednesday night. Jotanovic is representing his native Serbia in the shot put competition.
Jotanovic registered a personal-best throw of 20.17 meters (66 feet, 2¼ inches) earlier this year to qualify for his second World Championships team. He made his World Championships debut in Osaka, Japan in 2007. A veteran on the international scene, Jotanovic has also participated in the last two European Championships (Barcelona 2010, Gothenburg 2006). He finished fourth in the shot put at the 2003 European Junior Championships and 13th at the 2001 World Youth Championships.
Manhattan's school record-holder both indoors and outdoors in the event, Jotanovic twice won the bronze medal at the NCAA Championships (2007 outdoor, 2008 indoor). He established the indoor school record of 19.64 m (63'8¾) at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Championships.
The qualifying round in the men's shot put begins at 9 p.m. on Wednesday (10 a.m. Thursday in Daegu) and will be webcast live on universalsports.com. The competition will also be featured on the Universal Sports TV broadcast starting at 10 p.m. All throwers who reach the qualifying distance of 20.60 m (67'7) or at least the top 12 move on to the final, which takes place at 6 a.m. (7 p.m. local time) on Friday.
