NASHVILLE – Ryan Burruss posted a 12th place finish as the Kennesaw State men's cross country team opened the season with a ninth place finish at the Belmont Opener on Friday evening at Percy Warner Park.
The men competed in an 11-team field in their first event of the season as they finished with a total team time of 1:23:04.63 and 198 total points. The squad averaged a time of 16:36.93 for their first 5K of the season with Burruss leading the charge with a time of 15:52.27.
Steven Murray finished 40th with a time of 16:32.21 while teammate Cole Jackob finished 49th with a time of 16:43.20. Senior Jaakko Niemenen placed 61st with a time of 17:04.09 while junior Nabil Hamid turned in a time of 17:51.98.
In their first collegiate competition, freshmen Josh Jenkins, Parker Whitlock and Brett Carter lived up to expectations. Jenkins finished with a time of 16:52.86, Whitlock came in at 17:15.53 and Carter rounded out the freshmen trio with a time of 17:27.12.
The Owls will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 9 for the Auburn Invitational in Auburn, Ala.
