KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men’s cross country team is set to travel to Auburn, Ala., this Friday to compete in the Auburn Invitational.  The event marks the second race of the season for the team as they finished ninth last week at the Belmont Opener in Nashville, Tenn.

Joining the Owls for the Invitational will be host school Auburn, Alabama, Columbus State, Georgia State, Florida State, Samford, Troy, UAB, Southern Miss, S.E. Louisiana and West Georgia.

“This race will be another evaluation along our path to an Atlantic Sun Championship,” Assistant Coach Ryan Wagner said. “Every race until the championship is an opportunity to tweak each runner. Right now our team
workouts, attitude and enthusiasm are in line for positive progression for building a stronger team.”

Last week the Owls got a first-hand look at the A-Sun Championship site. In their season opener the Owls finished with a total team time of 1:23:04.63 and 198 total points.  The squad averaged a time of 16:36.93 for their first 5K of the season with Burruss leading the charge with a time of 15:52.27.

“This weekend gives us a better opportunity to run faster times,” team captain Ryan Burruss said. “The level of competition is higher and the weather is much better than it was in Nashville. This will be a great opportunity to gauge our performance next to top teams.”

The men’s 6K race will begin at 6:45 p.m. ET at the Conway Acres Farm, a two-kilometer course positioned just in the city of Auburn.
