Cross Country teams begin year with two separate meets

9/10/2011 7:28:00 PM

The Bellarmine University men's and women's cross country teams started their seasons by sending squads to two different meets, sending both men's and women's teams to the Queen City Invitational on Friday evening and two separate teams to the Bulldog Invitational in Big Rapids, Mich.

Top performances were turned in by Alex Jones for the men and Angela Musk for the women, both of whom had top five finishes at the Bulldog meet, which hosted by Ferris State Univesity at the site of this year's NCAA Regional.

Jones finished fourth overall covering the 8-kilometer course in 26:13.43.  Musk finished fifth while clocking a time of 18:30.32 for five kilometers.

"We treated this weekend as just a tune-up for the rest of the year," said Bellarmine Director of Cross Country and Track.  "(The meets) gave us an opportunity to get some competition in before we go to Notre Dame next week."  (The Knights will compete at the National Catholic Invitational in South Bend, Ind.)
