HAMPTON, Ga. – Nabil Hamid proved why he deserved to be named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Runner of the Week as the junior backed up his performance last week with a first place finish at the Georgia State Invitational.

Hamid ran an 8K time of 25:39 at the Nash Farm Battlefield track to lead the Owls to a second place finish behind Georgia with a team point total of 62.

“Not only does it feel great to win, but it’s a better feeling to help our team,” Hamid said. “The UGA racers pushed me throughout the race, but it was when Jaako (Nieminen) quickened the pace in the second loop that got me going and I was able to separate myself over the final 400 meters.”

Junior Nieminen posted a time of 26:17 to finish eighth while Ryan Burruss ran a time of 26:22 to finish tenth and give the Black and Gold three runners in the top-ten.

Senior Steve Murray placed 24th with a time of 27:15 while sophomore Zachary Tupper placed and freshman Josh Jenkins finished back-to-back in 29th and 30th with a finishing time of 27:28.Sophomore Cole Jackob finished 54th with a pace of 28:26 and freshman Parker Whitlock rounded out the runners for the Owls finishing 63rd with a time of 28:55.

“The men ran a very strong race and it was an excellent showing for this point in the season,” head coach Stan Sims said. “Nabil proved why he is one the best racers in the state. He was among the leaders through out the race and over the last portion he was able to pull away and win impressively. “

The team will be back in action in two weeks with the Louisville Cross Country Classic in Louisville, Ky.
