XC Outlasts UT-PB At Naimadu

Men's Results | Women's Results

ABILENE – The Abilene Christian men's and women's cross country teams defeated Texas-Permian Basin in a dual meet Saturday morning as part of a full day of racing at the third-annual Naimadu Classic.

The men's team won 17-46 behind a Wildcat sweep of the top-three places. Sophomore Spenser Lynn completed the 8K course at Sherrod Residential Park first in 26:24.00 and was immediately followed to the finish line by classmates Will Pike (26:35.00) and Erik Forrister (26:37.50).

Forrister's time was an improvement of 31.40 seconds from last year's meet.

“We did a good job of sticking together as a unit for the majority of the race,” head coach Chris Woods said of his men's team. “There are still a few missing components that we'll discover over the next few weeks once we get some more solid training under our belt. Conference will be a challenge but I'm confident this group of guys will quickly start to progress.”

The women's team won its dual 21-34 with juniors Alyse Goldsmith, Chloe Susset and Ayesha Rumble capturing the top-three positions. Goldsmith's winning 5K time was clocked at 18:36.97, Susset crossed in 18:52.54 and Rumble in 20:03.12.

UT-PB runners placed fourth through sixth, but the final two Wildcats Emily Hill and Rachel Belcher distanced themselves from a pack of five Falcons to place seventh and eighth and clinch the dual in ACU's favor.

“We did alright on the women's side,” said Woods, who earned his first win Saturday as the women's head coach. “We still have room for improvement but I'm looking forward to having a good meet in two weeks at Oklahoma State.”
