RIVERDALE, N.Y. - On a cold and windy afternoon at Van Cortlandt Park, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Cross Country Championships took place on Friday.  Led by several personal-best times, Manhattan's men's team finished sixth overall.  Meanwhile, the Jasper women were ninth.

Leading the way for the Manhattan men was Billy Wilkens (Kenmore, Wash.), who placed 21st with a time of 26:17.3 over the 8000-meter course.  Following close behind Wilkens was Zack Price (Warwick, N.Y.), who took 27th in 26:34.6.  The Jaspers' next four finishers crossed the line within 10 seconds of each other.  Tom Voorheis (Syracuse, N.Y.) placed 42nd (27:04.3), followed by Greg Perrier (Dix Hills, N.Y.) in 45th (27:12.0), Salim Corbin (Patterson, N.J.) in 46th (27:14.4) and Mikael Rojeras (Sala, Sweden) in 47th (27:16.7).  Rounding out Manhattan's top seven was 53rd-place finisher Anthony Colasurdo (Lanoka Harbor, N.J.), who posted a time of 27:36.0.

Manhattan collected 181 points in the team standings.  Iona swept the top five places to win its 21st consecutive MAAC title.  The Gaels' Leonard Korir finished in a time of 24:41.6 to claim the individual crown.

Maria Jangsten (Gothenburg, Sweden) was Manhattan's top finisher on the women's side.  She completed the 6000 meters in 24:38.6.  The Jaspers ran as a pack throughout the race, as the team's No. 2-6 runners all crossed the line consecutively within 14 seconds of each other.  Alyssa Windle (Redlands, Calif.) was 49th in 25:03.9, while Meghan Hayes (Brooklyn, N.Y.) placed 50th in a time of 25:07.5.  Alexandra Cappello (Scarsdale, N.Y.) (51st, 25:09.4), Johanna Petruski (Toms River, N.J.) (52nd, 25:13.2) and Meghan Marro (Cherry Hill, N.J.) (53rd, 25:17.2) rounded that quintet.  Elizabeth Rosenberger (Ramsey, N.J.) completed Manhattan's top seven.  She finished 56th in a time of 25:36.2.

The Jaspers finished ninth in the team standings with 247 points.  Led by Hollie Rowland, who set a championship record, Iona claimed its seventh straight MAAC crown with 18 points.

In addition, the MAAC announced the men's and women's cross country All-Academic Teams on Friday.  Jangsten and Emmy Koskinen (Sodertalje, Sweden) were honored on the women's side, while Voorheis, Wilkens, Tom Daly (Smithtown, N.Y.), AJ Hanifin (Long Valley, N.J.) and Joe Pluhowski (East Patchogue, N.Y.) were named to the men's All-Academic Team.  Student-athletes must have completed at least two semesters at their institution and have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher to earn a place on the MAAC All-Academic Team.

Manhattan returns to action on Nov. 12 at the NCAA Northeast Regional in Buffalo, N.Y.  The top two teams at Regionals, as well as the top four individuals from non-qualified teams, qualify for the NCAA Championships.
