Susset Voted Top Athlete

ABILENE – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Tuesday announced that Abilene Christian junior Chloe Susset was selected as the South Central Region's Women's Athlete of the Year in Division II. The vote was conducted by the division's coaches.

Susset is the fourth different Wildcat cross country runner to earn the region's top accolade over the past three seasons, joining a group that includes Anais Belledant (2010), two-time winner Amos Sang (2009, 2010) and Julius Nyango (2010).

A native of Clery Vexin, France, Susset won the NCAA DII South Central Regional last Saturday by eight seconds over Missouri Southern's Marlee Tegenkamp with a 6K time of 21:50.70. She also finished second at the Lone Star Conference Championship in San Angelo, Texas, in 21:51.

Susset's regional win was her second of the season on the Wichita Falls, Texas, course, as she also captured the Midwestern State Invitational title there in early October with a mark of 22:01.1. Additional performances this season include a top-20 showing at the season-opening 4K at Baylor, runner-up status to teammate Alyse Goldsmith at the Naimadu Classic, and a 58th-place finish against the top DI clubs at the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree.

Susset and Goldsmith, who placed fourth at regionals, will next compete Nov. 19 at the NCAA DII National Championships in Spokane, Wash.
