Friday Recap

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Felix Siljeback-Larsen (Vasteras, Sweden) of the Manhattan College indoor track & field won the heptathlon to lead three qualifiers for the IC4A Championships on day two of the Brother Jasper Invitational at Draddy Gymnasium on Saturday.  Also qualifying for the IC4A Championships on Saturday were Rokas Kirlys (Kamaji, Lithuania) in the shot put and Trevell Moxey (Lansdale, Pa.) in the triple jump.

Siljeback-Larsen was in the lead after day one, and he finished with 4990 points to win by more than 100 points and easily qualify for the IC4A Championships.  Kirlys uncorked a throw of 15.68 meters (51 feet, 5½ inches) to better the qualifying distance in the shot put.  In the triple jump, Moxey qualified for IC4As on his last attempt, a 14.38 m (47'2¼) effort.  Greg Perrier (Dix Hills, N.Y.) just missed becoming Manhattan's fourth qualifier of the day.  He won the 1000 meters in 2:30.19, a mere 0.24 seconds shy of the IC4A standard.

In the 60 meters, Abdias Myrtil (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) ran an impressive time of 7.08 seconds to capture second place.  Tyrek Barney (Hempstead, N.Y.) took second behind former Manhattan star Kelton Cumberbatch, who was representing the Shore Athletic Club, in the 500 meters (1:07.45), while Anthony Colasurdo (Lanoka Harbor, N.J.) was second in the 1500 meters (4:12.25).  Also earning second-place finishes were Dmitri Mobley (Abington, Pa.) in the 60 meter hurdles (8.75), John Channell (Staten Island, N.Y.) in the high jump (1.84 m, 6'0½), Roman Ewald (Olching, Germany) in the shot put (16.59 m, 54'5¼), and the 4x400 meter relay squad of Mobley, Myrtil, Barney and Carlos Petrovich (Yonkers, N.Y.) (3:26.83).

On the women's side, Alexandra Cappello (Scarsdale, N.Y.), Wahnetah Carty (Gales Ferry, Conn.) and Sabrina Spataro (Middle Village, N.Y.) all posted Met-qualifying marks.  Cappello achieved the standard with a time of 10:48.56 in the 3000 meters, while Carty and Spataro both cleared 1.55 m (5'1) in the high jump.  Carty also finished second in the long jump with a leap of 5.19 m (17'0½).  Jordan Rand (Colorado Springs, Colo.) won the long jump with a best mark of 5.39 m (17'8¼).

Other event winners among the Manhattan women included Janie Turek (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) in the 1000 (3:10.64), Maria Jangsten (Gothenburg, Sweden) in the 1500 (4:54.45) and Kristi Krull (Tallin, Estonia) in the shot put (10.43 m, 34'2¾).

The Brother Jasper Invitational was Manhattan's final meet of the 2011 calendar year.  The Jaspers don't return to action until Jan. 13, when they participate in the NYC Gotham Cup at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center.
