Track Teams Travel to Penn State for Nittany Lion Challenge

ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell's track and field teams will face their toughest competition yet this weekend as they travel to Penn State for the Nittany Lion Challenge on Saturday.

Also taking part in the meet is host Penn State, Maryland, Pitt, West Virginia and Albany. The field is the most talent the Big Red has seen this year. Though none of the teams competing are ranked in the pre-season top 25, the Penn State men finished the 2011 indoor season ranked No. 11 in the country. West Virginia's women were No. 18 at the end of last season, and Maryland's women fell just outside the top 25.

The event kicks off at 11 a.m. with the men's weight throw, men's pole vault and men's long jump on the field side. Also beginning on the track at 11 a.m. is the mixed one-mile run.

Cornell's men and women are coming off a highly successful meet on Friday in the Southern Tier Collegiate Open at Barton Hall. The Big Red men won eight events and had senior Nick  Huber break the school record in the pentathlon (3,707 points). The women's team won an impressive 12  events, and junior Victoria Imbesi broke a 25-year-old school record in the shot put (48' 1/2”).
