New Balance Collegiate Invitational Results
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Manhattan College's Cara Rostant (Valley Stream, N.Y.) ran a season-best time of 24.61 seconds to win the women's 200 meters on the opening day of action at the Giegengack Invitational from Yale University's Coxe Cage on Friday. The Jaspers went 1-3-5 in the event, as Ashley Bowman (Elmont, N.Y.) placed third in a time of 25.52 seconds and Ieva Vitola (Jekabpils, Latvia) was fifth in 25.92 seconds.
Rostant, who had already qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 200, improved her season-best time, while Bowman just missed the ECAC-qualifying time of 25.04 seconds.
On the men's side, Abdias Myrtil (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) and Anthony Vega (Patchogue, N.Y.) were separated by just .02 seconds in the 200. Myrtil finished fourth in a time of 22.44 seconds, while Vega placed fifth with a time of 22.46 seconds. In addition, Matt Perrelli (Smithtown, N.Y.) took fourth in the men's high jump with a leap of 1.84 meters (6'0½).
Manhattan also sent a handful of athletes to the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at the Armory Track & Field Center on Friday. Going against a competitive field in the men's shot put, Roman Ewald (Olching, Germany) grabbed 27th place with a toss of 15.83 m (51'11½).
The Jaspers conclude action at both meets on Saturday. Most of the team will be at Yale, where competition gets underway at 9:30 a.m., while Brian McGovern (Yonkers, N.Y.), Trevell Moxey (Lansdale, Pa.), Edward Brentnall (Atlanta, Ga.), Anastas Papazov (Balchik, Bulgaria) and Ewald will be in action at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational starting at 9:30 a.m.
