Three Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

New Orleans, La. - Three University of Wisconsin-La Crosse student-athletes have been named to the 2011 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III All-Academic Cross Country Team.  Sophomore Rachel Schroeder of Wales (Kettle Moraine) was selected to the women's team while sophomores Jacob Peterson of Nekoosa (H.S.) and Sam Simones of La Crosse (Aquinas) earned the honor for the men's squad.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or greater through the most-recent semester and placed in the top 35 at the NCAA Regional Championships.

Schroeder placed 18th (22:40.4 on 6,000-meter course) at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional November 12 at the Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Illinois.  She earned all-region honors with her finish. 

In her first career appearance at the NCAA Division III Championships November 19 at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wisconsin, Schroeder finished 208th overall (23:09.58).

She was 19th (23:07.03) at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships October 29 at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, Wisconsin.

Peterson was 35th (25:47.3 on 8,000-meter course) at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional November 12 to earn all-region honors.  He placed 141st (25:33.32) at the NCAA Division III Championships November 19.

Peterson was 17th (25:32.8) at this year's conference championships October 29. 

Simones was 32nd (25:42.3) at the 2011 NCAA Division III Regional to earn all-region accolades.  He placed 78th (25:09.01) at the NCAA III Championships.

Simones was also 32nd (25:59.0) at the WIAC Championships.

Peterson and Simones made their first career appearance at the NCAA III Championships and helped lead UW-L to a 14th-place finish.
