Women's Track & Field Team Opens Season

St. Paul, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field squad opened its 2012 indoor season Friday night at the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) Invitational.  No team scores were recorded.  The Eagles had six individuals, Hannah Mueller, Caitlin Wippermann, Claire Elliot, Rebecca Scheuermann, Megan Marfilius and Erika Whitson, win individual titles Friday.

Mueller captured the 55-meter dash (7.31) while Wippermann won the 200-meter dash (25.93) and Elliot the 400-meter dash (59.93).  Mueller was also sixth in the 200 (26.71) and finished third in the triple jump (10.65 meters).  Scheuermann won the 800-meter dash (2:26.42).

In the field events, Marfilius won the high jump (1.63 meters) and Whitson captured the pole vault (3.20).

Other top finishers on the track included Jenna Halvorson placing second (1:00.12) and Annalise Falk-Pedersen fourth (1:03.07) in the 400-meter dash while Megan Knutson was third (1:40.99) in the 600-meter dash.

The Eagles' Allison Richman placed second (2:27.69) and Lisa Rydeen fourth (2:32.47) in the 800-meter run while Megan Stats was fifth in the mile run (5:33.38).  Rachel Schroeder was second (10:52.03), Corissa Conard tied for third (10.55.77) and Laura Mead was fifth (11:17.89).   Jaime Ludwigson was fourth (8.92) in the 55-meter hurdles.

UW-L's 4x200 (1:49.06) and 4x400 (3:58.83) meter relays both finished second.

In the field events Friday, Crystal Oravis tied for second (1.58 meters) in the high jump while Amy Jo Garinger and Kayla Ashland tied for third (1.58).  Erika Marisch was fifth (4.88) and Garinger sixth (4.84) in the long jump while Ludwigson finished fourth (10.50) and Bailey Alston was fifth (10.33) in the triple jump.

Christy Moses was second (3.04), Maddison Norlin tied for third (2.89) and Summer Tietz finished sixth (2.89) in the pole vault.

The Eagles' Jessica Ramel was second (14.92) in the weight throw and seventh (10.95) in the shot put.
