UW-L Tied for Fourth at NCAA Championships

Grinnell, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team is tied for fourth-place after the first day of action at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Indoor Championships in the Charles Benson Bear Recreation and Athletic Center. The championships are being hosted by Grinnell College (Iowa). The Eagles have 11.0 team points while North Central College (Ill.) leads with 24.0.  UW-Eau Claire is in second-place (15.0) while UW-Oshkosh is third (14.0).

UW-Whitewater and Massachusetts Institute of Technology are tied for fourth with UW-L (11.0 points) while Bowdoin College (Maine), Wartburg College (Iowa) and Bates College (Maine) are tied for seventh (10.0) and UW-Stevens Point is 10th (8.0).  A total of 21 teams have scored points.

UW-L's Isaac Vazquez placed third in the long jump (23-8 3/4) Friday night to earn his fourth career indoor All-America honor.  He was third in the long and triple jumps last season and placed eighth in the triple jump in 2010.  Vazquez will compete in the triple jump Saturday.

Troy Brooks finished 13th in the long jump (21-9 1/2) Friday.

The Eagles' John Cooper earned his first career All-America award Friday with a seventh-place finish (61-11) in the weight throw.

UW-L's distance medley relay of Andrew Rohlman, Nick Tehan, Sean Royer and Garrett Kerska earned NCAA III All-America awards with a sixth-place finish (10:03.52).  It is the first career All-America honor for all four athletes.

In other results Friday, Jeremiah Burish was 10th in the pole vault (15-3 1/2).

Andy Grossman is in 12th-place after the first day of action in the heptathlon (2,549 points).

In preliminary track action, UW-L's Aric Hoeschen advanced to Saturday's 400-meter dash final after running in the preliminaries (49.27).

Alex Koenen failed to advance to Saturday's 60-meter dash final after competing in Friday's preliminaries (7.00).

Action continues Saturday at Grinnell College.
