Track Teams Stay West to Compete in Irvine Invite

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men's and women's track and field teams are back in action this weekend as they compete at the Irvine Spring Break Invite in Irvine, Calif.

Continuing their spring break trip to the west coast after last week's Northridge Invitational, the Big Red look to get adjusted to the outdoors after a spending the first three months of the year indoors.

At the Northridge Invitational, the men's team had six event winners, including freshman Stephen Mozia in the shot put and discus, Nick Huber in the 110 hurdles, John Schilkowsky in the 800, Nick Wade in the 1500 and the 4x100 relay team. On the women's side last weekend, three events were won by Cornell athletes. Genna Hartung took the title in the 3000 steeplechase, Lauren Lloyd took the 800 and Jade Williams claimed the 1500 title.

Events for this weekend's California meet begin at 3 p.m. on Friday with the men's hammer throw and continue through 5 p.m. on Saturday when the men's 4x400 relay closes out the competition. Athletes from teams around the country — including Utah State, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, and the home Anteaters — will be competing against the Big Red.
