RIVERDALE, N.Y. - For the second time this season, Manhattan College's Anastas Papazov (Balchik, Bulgaria) has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men's Outdoor Track & Field Performer of the Week. Papazov was selected for his performances at the Sam Howell Invitational and Roadrunner Invitational last weekend.
Papazov had a personal-best effort of 66.08 meters (216 feet, nine inches) in the hammer throw at the Sam Howell Invitational on Friday. With that performance, which was good enough for third place in the competition, Papazov moved into seventh place on the Jaspers' all-time list in the event. The following day at the Roadrunner Invitational, Papazov contested both the shot put and discus throw. He finished fourth in the shot put (14.79 m, 48'6¼) and sixth in the discus (44.76 m, 146'10), as Manhattan earned the team title.
He was previously named MAAC Performer of the Week on March 27 after finishing as the top collegian in the hammer throw at the season-opening Baldy Castillo Invitational. Cara Rostant (Valley Stream, N.Y.) was the Women's Performer of the Week on March 27, while Phil Ragan (Belmar, N.J.) took home the honors on the men's side last week.
The Jaspers return to action with the Metropolitan Outdoor Championships at Rutgers University this weekend. Manhattan's men's squad won the Metropolitan Championship last year.
