UW-L in Third Place at WIAC Championships

Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field squad is in third-place after the first day of competition Friday at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Championships at UW-Whitewater's Foster Field.  The Eagles have 38.0 team points while UW-Oshkosh leads with 57.0.  UW-River Falls is second with 48.0 points.

UW-Eau Claire is fourth (37.0) followed by UW-Stout (31.0), UW-Whitewater (21.0), UW-Platteville (20.0) UW-Stevens Point (18.0) and UW-Superior (3.0).

In Friday's action, UW-L's Rachel Schroeder placed second (11:17.79) and Karyn Genrich seventh (11:43.56) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. 

Kelsey Boyle was eighth in the 10,000-meter run (39:21.85).

The Eagles' 4x800-meter relay of Megan Stats, Alyssa Luker, Megan Knutson and Kristin Lillie finished second (9:22.21).

In the field events, Bailey Alston finished second (18-2 1/4), Hannah Mueller sixth (17-4 1/4) and Amy Jo Garinger seventh (17-1 1/2) in the long jump.

Nicole Flackey was sixth in the hammer throw (161-8) while Amanda Bridleman finished seventh in the javelin throw (108-9) and Summer Tietz was eighth in the pole vault (10-7 1/2).

In preliminary action on the track Friday, Caitlin Wippermann (12.12), Rebecca Schmidt (12.28) and Mueller (12.40) advanced to the 100-meter dash final Saturday.  Wippermann (24.50), Claire Elliott (24.86), Schmidt (25.11) and Jamie Ludwigson (25.14) will run in Saturday's 200-meter dash final.  Ludwigson also qualified for the 100-meter hurdles (15.10) championship.

Elliott (56.51), Jenna Halvorson (57.56), Shannon Klein (58.92) and Annalise Falk-Pedersen (59.93) advanced to the 400-meter dash final.

Marissa Mahr (1:04.56), Crystal Oravis (1:04.60) and Rena Kneeland (1:05.67) advanced to the 400-meter hurdles final while Rebecca Scheuermann (2:16.90) and Knutson (2:17.67) will compete in the 800-meter run championship.

Action concludes Saturday, May 5 at UW-Whitewater.
