Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field squad won its 22nd consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) outdoor title Saturday at UW-Whitewater's Foster Field.  It is the Eagles' league-leading 48th outdoor championship in school history.  UW-L finished with 163 points to win this year's title while UW-Oshkosh was second with 160 and UW-Whitewate third with 135.  Head coach Josh Buchholtz, in his fourth year at UW-L, has now won four straight WIAC outdoor titles as well as four consecutive indoor crowns.

UW-Eau Claire placed fourth (112 points) Saturday followed by UW-Stout (75), UW-Platteville (74), UW-River Falls (68), UW-Stevens Point (60) and UW-Superior (10).

In Saturday's action, UW-L captured the 4x400-meter relay with a conference championship and facility record time of 3:12.48.  The relay consisted of Nick Tehan, Tyson Young, Christian Wendland and Aric Hoeschen.

The Eagles were also second in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 41.64. The relay was made up of Jared Sitte, David Sikorski, Terrence Thigpen and Troy Brooks.

Individually, Hoeschen won the 400-meter dash (47.63) Saturday.

Thigpen was second (10.68) in the 100-meter dash and third (21.57) in the 200-meter dash.  Sitte placed ninth (11.13) in the 100-meter dash.

UW-L's Adam Nichols finished second (14.79) in the 100-meter hurdles while Travis Gallick was ninth (58.71) in the 400-meter hurdles.

Other top finishes on the track Saturday included Eric Smits third (1:55.66) and Jamie Bottcher fourth (1:56.12) in the 800-meter run while Andrew Heinritz was sixth (3:59.94) in the 1,500-meter run.  David Stilin placed third (14:37.85), Josh Kaul fifth (14:48.72) and Nathan Routhier eighth (15:02.61) in the 5,000-meter run.

UW-L's Andy Grossman placed fifth (6,368 points) in the decathlon.

In the field events Saturday, Grant Havard was second (174-7) and Andy Novak sixth (164-2) in the discus throw while Alex Zart placed ninth (49-9 3/4) and Adam Poellinger 10th (49-8 1/2) in the shot put.

Isaac Vazquez finished fourth (47-9), Tony Bilderback sixth (46-11 1/2) and Brett Davis eighth (45-9 1/4) in the triple jump while Nick Stone tied for seventh (6-2 3/4) in the high jump.

UW-L returns to action Friday, May 11 hosting the Eagle Open at 4 p.m.
