Papazov Takes Third In Hammer Throw at Army Strong Series

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Two days after winning the hammer throw at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships, Manhattan College's Anastas Papazov (Balchik, Bulgaria) grabbed third place in the event against elite-level competition at the Army Strong Throwing Series on Monday afternoon.  Papazov recorded a best throw of 65.04 meters (213 feet, five inches) at the U.S. Military Academy's Shea Stadium.

Placing second in the competition was Manhattan alumnus Jake FreemanIn his first meet of the Olympic year, Freeman's best effort was 70.50 m (231'3).  Costa Rica's Roberto Sawyers won the event with a throw of 72.74 m (238'8).

In addition, Manhattan's Edward Brentnall (Atlanta, Ga.) threw the 6 kg. hammer (which will be used at this summer's World Junior Championships) at the meet, and had a top mark of 58.30 m (191'3).
