ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men's track team had an incredibly successful weekend, placing second out of more than 80 schools at the IC4A Championships in Princeton. The Big Red scored 52 points, second only to George Mason's 59.

After claiming the Indoor IC4A Championships in early March, Cornell once again showed its skills in front of schools from North Carolina through Maine. The Big Red scored in six different events and had 12 athletes contribute to point-scoring efforts in those events, led by Stephen Mozia's 16 combined points.

Mozia, who already owns the Cornell freshman outdoor records in the shot put and the discus, came through in both those e vents with second-place finishes. His throw of 59' 9 3/4” in the shot put was just more than a foot behind Monmouth's Vincent Elardo for first place. In the discus, Mozia broke his own Big Red freshman record by an inch, reaching 174' 7” to score eight more points for Cornell. The Big Red also earned a scoring effort from senior Bob Belden in the shot put, as he threw 56' 7 1/2” to place fifth.

Cornell's other second-place finish came in the 4x800 relay. The combo of junior Will McFall, Ben Potts, Brian Freitas and Will Weinlandt cross the finish line in 7:29.18, just more than half a second shy of the winning team from Fordham. Cornell's time was just outside the all-time top 10 in school history.

Cornell had two athletes score in the decathlon, as Nick Athanasopolous and Chris Ryan took fifth and seventh place, respectively. Over three days and 10 events, Athanasopolous accumulated 6,463 points while Ryan finished just behind him 6,344.

Two Big Red athletes also scored in the high jump. Sophomore Tommy Butler reached a height of 7' 1/2” and senior Chris Arlinghaus jumped 6' 11”, taking third and fourth place to score a combined 11 points for Cornell. Butler's mark was a personal best – surpassing his old mark of 6' 10 1/4” by more than two full inches – and is tied for the fourth-best mark ever at Cornell.

The Big Red's scoring efforts were not done there. Senior Kenny McClain, the 2012 Outdoor Heptagonals Champion, turned in a time of 52.14 in the 400 hurdles, taking sixth and scoring three points. Peter Roach, also the 2012 Heptagonals Champion in the pole vault, reached a height of 16' 8” to take fifth and score four points for Cornell.

All that remains on the track schedule now is the 2012 Outdoor NCAA Championships. The first round will be held this weekend in Jacksonville, Fla. Entry sheets have not been released, though Cornell is expected to have multiple athletes in the field.
