Roman Ewald Selected to Capital One Academic All-District Team

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan College's Roman Ewald (Olching, Germany) has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District I Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Team, it was announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  Ewald now moves on to the national ballot for the Capital One Academic All-America Team.

Ewald, a finance major with a 3.82 GPA, is a six-time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Academic honoree.  While this is his first Academic All-District selection, he was previously named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) Division I All-Academic Men's Track & Field Team in 2010.

Last weekend, he completed his collegiate eligibility with a 32nd-place showing in the discus at the NCAA East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Fla.  Ewald was named Most Outstanding Performer for Field Events at the 2011 MAAC Outdoor Championships.  He won the shot put and discus, while also finishing second in the hammer throw, as the Jaspers won the conference title.  Ewald contested all three events at the IC4A Outdoor Championships, placing fifth in the hammer throw.

To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher and have completed at least two semesters at their institution.  Manhattan has had at least one representative on either the men's or women's track & field/cross country squad (or both) every year since 2006.
