DES MOINES, Iowa – Senior Nick Huber concluded a phenomenal Cornell career on Thursday with a  competition to remember, placing 11th in the NCAA decathlon and nearly equaling his personal and school record with 7,616 points.

Huber and the rest of the 22-athlete field started their day Thursday with the 110 hurdles. In that event, Huber ran in the first heat and finished second out of four decathletes. His time of 14.80 seconds was the 10th-best in the group, and her earned 874 points toward his score.

Next up was the discus, and Huber again finished in the top 10 of that competition. Getting the discus 134 feet even, Huber garnered 682 points for himself, an eighth-place finish in the event, and he moved within 109 points of the lead to sit in fourth place overall.

Pole vault was the third discipline of the afternoon, and Huber finished in the lower half of the group for the first time in eight events. Clearing a height of 14' 5 1/4” at his best, Huber took 16th place in the pole vault and dropped to ninth overall.

The javelin came next, and Huber started off with a throw of 141' 2”. On his second attempt, though, the senior bested his previous work by more than seven feet, reaching 148' 5”. That was enough to score him 519 points heading into the final event.

The last part of the decathlon was the 1500-meter run, and Huber excelled, taking fifth place overall with a time of 4:29.99, just getting in under the 4:30 mark. He scored 745 points for himself with that time and topped the decathlon's eventual winner by more than 12 seconds.

Boise State's Kurt Felix would go on to win the decathlon with 8,062 total points.
