Lalang 22:33 8K Earns Him National Performer of the Week Award

If Saturday's Greater Louisville Classic was a preview of what's to come next month at the NCAA Championships, then the cross-country fan base will be in for a real treat when they watch Arizona's Lawi Lalang.

Lalang, a sophomore from Eldoret, Kenya, has been named this week's MileSplit U National Performer of the Week. In his season debut, Lalang  picked up his seventh-consecutive victory dating back to last season, winning the Great Louisville Classic 8000-meter race in a course record of 22 minutes, 33.57 seconds.

Lalang posted a 3-second victory over fellow teammate Stephen Sambu, who clocked 22:36.37, and also surpassed the previous course record as well by 35 seconds.

Tom Sawyer State Park, the meet host and home course to the Louisville cross country program, will host the 2012 NCAA Championships on November 17. Lalang will set out to defend his 2011 title,  which he won as a freshman.
