Men's Cross Country Places Fourth at NCAA III Championships

Terre Haute, Ind. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's cross country squad placed fourth at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships Saturday morning at LaVern Gibson Course. The Eagles finished with 190 points while North Central College (Ill.) won the national title with 167. Calvin College (Mich.) and Haverford College (Pa.) tied for second with 188 points while Washington University (Mo.) finished fifth with 226 points.

Bates College, Maine finished sixth (260) followed by Tufts University, Mass. (265), Middlebury College, Vt. (286), Wheaton College, Ill. (315) and UW-Eau Claire (323) to round-out the top-10. A total of 32 teams competed.

It is UW-L's 11th finish in the top-10 in school history at the national championships. The Eagles have won three NCAA Division III titles (1996, 2001, 2005).

UW-L's Josh Kaul and Josh Dedering both earned NCAA Division III All-America honors Saturday. Kaul placed 24th overall with a time of 24:58.8 on the 8,000-meter course while Dedering was 30th overall with a time of 25:02.5. It is the first career All-America honor for both runners.

Kaul placed 260th in 2008 and 91st in 2011 at the NCAA III Championships while Dedering was 182nd at last year's national meet.

The Eagles' Nate Routhier placed 42nd overall (25:11.5) Saturday while Jacob Peterson was 70th (25:30.2) and Garrett Kerska 98th (25:41.8). UW-L's Tom Linner tied for 111th (25:46.4) while Sam Simones finished 166th (26:10.2).

Tim Nelson of UW-Stout won the individual national title (24:26.8). A total of 280 runners competed.
