PRINCETON, N.J. - Freshman Maggie Rampolla had the third-highest pole vault in Towson school history, leading the Tiger indoor track and field team to an excellent showing at the Princeton New Year's Invite at Jadwin Gym on Sunday in a non-scoring meet.
Rampolla's result of 10' 11.75" tied her for fifth in the event and put her just above Jessica Stadler on Towson's all-time list.
"We're definitely expecting big things from her," Towson head coach Roger Erricker said. "The pole vault event is so mental and much of the success in it is between the ears."
Senior Katie Salke had a strong showing for the Tigers in two events, including a fifth-place finish in the triple jump with a showing of 36' 0.75". Salke's time of 9.08 seconds in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles event put her in the final heat, where her time of 9.10 was good for sixth. She stands third all-time in the event at Towson with a time of 8.88 she ran in 2011
Kamilah Browne joined Salke on the Towson top-10 in the event, etching her name there with a time of 9.22 in the preliminaries to move into ninth place.
Also performing well were a pair of freshmen in Emerald Vickers and Kaitlyn Davis. Vickers cleared the 5' 5" mark in the high jump for the second consecutive meet, while Davis had a strong time of 7.99 seconds in the 60-meter dash.
The Tigers will return to the track after the new year, competing in the Bucknell Heptagonal on Jan. 19.
