Wednesday, February 5th is this year's first day that prospective collegiate student-athletes among the high school graduating class of 2014 can legally and officially sign their binding National Letter of Intents to their future colleges and universities for next fall in which they will continue their academics and athletics on a scholarship (full or partial) earned by their athletic talents. Dani Bunch and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi each defended their Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week honor, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon. Bunch broke her own school records in the shot put and weight throw, including a national leader in weight, while Enekwechi set personal records in the same events, school and facility records and a national leader in the weight throw.

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi was named one of six USTFCCCA National Athletes of the Week on Monday afternoon. The announcement came just hours after the sophomore thrower was tabbed the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week. The USTFCCCA also released its Preseason Division I National Team Computer rankings on Monday afternoon and the Purdue women are one of just two Big Ten teams ranked in the top 25.

Under adverse conditions, the Michigan State women's cross country team surged to a sixth-place finish and sophomore Caleb Rhynard earned All-American honors at the NCAA Championships on Saturday afternoon in Terre Haute, Ind. The women totaled 236 points to record the highest finish since 2007, third-best in program history, and Rhynard is the first MSU men's All-American since 1997.
