The mile has the deepest history, but the 1500 has been used in every modern Olympics. And then there's the 1600, a uniquely American combination of the mile and the metric. Which do you think should be the "flagship" middle-distance race on the international stage?

I don't think the current American measurement system should ever be used, or exist. There are no advantages over the metric system currently used nearly everywhere in the world. Yes, the mile has history, but is based on a measurement system that is impractical and deteriorating. So yeah, 1500m for most international events.

@ilikenarwhals But then why race a marathon? How impractical of a distance is that? The history which is why we do it.
