I would possibly even add from 1989-1990, Warren "Skeeter" Rankins from Herculaneum, Mo. to that list.

There are some serious milers that were left off of that list that need to be included: Brian Radle-Fox Tim Cornell-Hickman Garett Jefferies-Marquette I would also include some guys who specialized in the 3200, but would be competitive as well: Chris Borsa-CBC Jason Sandfort-West Plains Chris Zinn-West Plains Joe Kirby-Jefferson City Michael Cox-Hannibal

@Coach_casa You included Michael Cox, a sub 4-minute miler while at KU, but I think there are at least two more sub 4 milers not mentioned yet.

@Hays Nick Happe (Francis Howell North) would be one. He did it while running for Arizona State. I forgot about him. I can’t come up with the other one though. I’m going to have to do some research!

I think Quigley did it this indoor season. I could be wrong though.

I made this list based off what folks did in HS, not college, not as pro's. Again this wasn't meant to be an end all be all list, it was meant to spark a discussion, not criticism of the original list. In fact I was HOPING people would make their OWN dream mile list of HSer's and we could debate and educate. I'm pretty satisfied with my list if I'm being honest. :)

I think I would include Jeff Pigg of Rogersville as well. Two time State Champion in the 1600. He ran a 3:41.08 in the 1500 at Florida.

@keithhurdles I think you have a great list for discussion, but the two kids I thought of were both state champs although at smaller class levels so they are not remembered. A name not mentioned is Jim Olson of Kirkwood who ran a 4:08.4 in winning the 1965 Class L mile in 1965 on the Red Dog track at MU, probably in a pair of 4 spike red Adidas. He broke the state record by over 12 seconds and second place that day was 4:21.8. It was Falcon almost 20 years later that broke his record on the Lincoln track and really Pyrah two years later that ran faster than Olsen's converted 1600 would be. Pyrah and Olsen the top two just for HS then maybe Falcon for third.

Can anyone tell us about Jim Olson's running after he left Kirkwood High School?

@kcolter After getting beat in the Golden West Mile by Jim Ryun, 4:04.3-4:07.3, he joined him at KU. Do not know how well he did there.

@keithhurdles I'm surprised no one has mentioned Danny Thater on here yet. Almost wire-to-wire 4:12 win at the 2010 state meet, then a few weeks later a 4:08 full mile at the Midwest Distance Gala.
