A young man from Niceville is struggling to recover from a swimming pool accident March 17 at the University of Florida. Jack Massey, a junior, was injured doing a back flip into a shallow pool at an apartment complex near the campus, according to the incident report from the Gainesville Police Department. He and his roommate were at the apartment complex visiting a friend when the accident occurred. Jack was part of Niceville High School's 4 x 800 relay team that won a state championship his senior year. His teammates — Nick Morken, Thomas Howell and Tripp Davis — visited him in the hospital over the weekend. "He looked all right," Morken said. "He had a neck brace on. I just told him, 'I'm here right now.' I kind of felt helpless, though. I couldn't do anything to make him better." http://www.gainesville.com/news/20170324/uf-junior-paralyzed-after-pool-accident

@ubiQuitous1 I was fortunate enough to coach Jack during his senior track season. The 4x800 was his love and the state championship they won meant so much to Jack, Nick, Thomas, and Tripp. Jack always put it all on the line for that relay team. A gofundme account has been set up to help the family deal with the uncovered medical bills that accompany this unexpected, tragic event.
