SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse University hurdler Jarret Eaton was awarded the USTFCCCA Northeast Region Men's Track Athlete of the Year, as announced on Tuesday evening. The junior from Abington, Pa. is tied for the fifth-fastest time in the nation in the 60-meter hurdles after finishing in 7.68 seconds against a talented field at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Feb. 4. The mark is also a Syracuse school record.
Eaton is just the third member of the Orange track & field team to earn a distinction of this magnitude in school history. Last season, steeplechase runner Kyle Heath earned the honor, while All-American heptathlete Jillian Drouin was named the USTFCCCA Northeast Field Athlete of the Year in 2007.
Eaton will represent Syracuse in the NCAA Indoor Championship in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He will participate in the 60-meter hurdles preliminary race on Friday, March 12 at 5:25 p.m. The final race is set for Saturday, March 13 at 6:35 p.m.
