@batessoftball sophomore catcher Isabel Bettencourt and junior pitcher Delaney Rankin have both been named second team All-Region, as announced Friday by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association!

This comes on the heels of both players being named first team All-NESCAC on Wednesday, well-deserved recognition for outstanding seasons at the plate and in the circle.

Bettencourt had a breakout season in her second year as a Bobcat. A team captain, she raised her batting average from .232 as a rookie to a team-leading .378 this season. Bettencourt also saw her slugging percentage jump from .305 to a team-leading .550. She led the Bates softball team in both home runs (3) and RBIs (28) as well.

Some of Bettencourt’s top performances included: the opening 10-game trip to Florida that saw her hit a ridiculous .656, going 2-3 with a double and two RBIs in a win over Trinity, going 3-3 in a win over then-No. 13 nationally ranked Williams, going 2-4 with a home run and three RBIs against Amherst, and going 3-4 with a double and a run scored against Hamilton.

Rankin has been a solid pitcher from day one at Bates, but the team captain took her game to another level in the circle this year. She posted a career-best 1.82 ERA while holding opponents to a career-low .227 batting average. Incredibly, Rankin won her first eight starts of the season on her way to a career-high 11 wins, just three shy of the Bates record for wins in one season.

Some of Rankin’s top performances included: a shutout and a career-high 15 strikeouts in the season-opener against Framingham State, seven strikeouts in a 1-0 shutout of Clarkson, and eight-inning complete game victories over Wesleyan and Amherst. She also earned a win in a nine-inning complete game against Babson.

@batesmlax sophomore Miles Schmidt has been named honorable mention All-New England, as announced Friday by the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association!

Schmidt was more than just a face-off specialist this season for the Bobcats, also tallying four goals (with a shots-on-goal percentage of .765) and dishing out an assist. But it was in the face-off circle where he did the most damage, winning 210 faceoffs in 329 chances, good for a face-off percentage of .638. Schmidt’s percentage was the second-best in the NESCAC — behind only Tufts University’s Parker Merril — who is a senior.

Unlike some of his peers, Schmidt won the faceoffs himself a lot of the time, as he led the NESCAC with 7.69 ground balls per game.

Some of Schmidt’s top performances this season included: winning 20-22 faceoffs while recording 12 ground balls in a 12-9 win over Franklin & Marshall, scoring a goal, recording 12 ground balls, and winning 20-23 faceoffs in a 14-8 win over Hamilton, and scoring a goal while recording a season-high 15 ground balls and winning a season-high 21 faceoffs in a 14-10 win over Connecticut College. Schmidt also won the majority of his faceoffs (13-22) against No. 1 nationally ranked Tufts.

The Bobcats finished the 2025 season with an overall record of 9-7 and a 4-6 mark in NESCAC play. Their nine wins this year marked a big step forward for the program as it’s more than they’d tallied in the previous five seasons combined, two of which were abbreviated due to COVID-19. Bates men’s lacrosse also qualified for the NESCAC tournament for the first time since 2019 and recently received the President’s Cup for overall excellence at the 2025 CATSBY Awards.
