Records Set at Track and Field Indoor Opener

LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana track and field team earned 10 first-place performances and recorded several personal best records at the McNeese Cowboy Indoor I at the McNeese State Recreation Complex.

"As a men's and women's group, I felt this this was the best collective meet we've had in several seasons," said Head Coach Sean Brady.

Brandon Daniels earned a first-place finish and recorded a new school record in the men's indoor 55-meter dash (6.30 seconds). The record was previously held by Robert Brown in 1991 with a time of 6.32 seconds.

Nia Stewart led the way on the women's side, claiming the first-place spot in two events. Stewart recorded a time of 7.12 seconds in the 55-meter dash and a mark of 5.94 meters in the long jump.

The Lady Lions earned a total of six first-place finishes, including Alicia Noel (55-meter hurdles & 4x400 meter relay), Domonique WhiteDarichelle SampsonCharlyn Miller (4x400-meter relay), and Sharon Ann Ourso (pole vault).

"Alicia and Nia did what we expected them to does as seniors," Brady said. "They executed well. And this was Alicia's first time to competitively run the 55 hurdles. To win it on the first time is impressive."

A total of 4 first-place finishes were recorded by the men's side. Freshman Alex Holden claimed the title in men's 600-meter run with a time of 1:23.86, while Dwayne Woodard finished first in the men's 400-meter dash (52.81 seconds).

Several personal bests were set in Lake Charles, highlighted by the group of men's and women's throwers. Misha Frazier won the shot put, throwing for 13.86 meters.Jonathan Kinchen claimed the title in the men's weight throw (20.65 meters), while teammate Brett Olsen finished right behind in second (18.76 meters). Jeffrey Millironalso recorded a personal best in the men's shot put with a distance of 16.86 meters.

"Anytime you set a personal best in the opening meet, you're headed in the right direction," said Brady. "I feel good about what our coaching staff has done to prepare each of our groups, and I'm looking forward to next week as we will prepare for Arkansas State."

The Southeastern track and field teams will travel this weekend to Jonesboro, Arkansas to compete in the ASU Invitational.
