Jake Brumfield’s name was almost nowhere to be found among Internet gurus predicting distance winners at Dayton Division I regional track and field finals Friday night at Welcome Stadium.
“I missed the first three weeks of the season with a bad hamstring,” the Vandalia Butler sophomore said. “So I haven’t really been getting into great running shape until the last few weeks.”

The First OHRunners Ohio High School Hammer Championship will take place June 3rd, 2012 on the Ohio Wesleyan University campus in Delaware, Ohio. The meet is designed for any athlete that is interested in throwing the hammer to get a chance compete, but to also showcase the elite hammer throwers that the state continues to produce. Ohio currently has three athletes in the top 10 in the hammer throw in the nation. On the boys side Bryn Campbell (Canal Winchester) is ranked 5th with a throw of 209-2 and Darien Thornton (Wayne) is ranked 8th at 202-2. For the girls, Erica King (Cuyahoga Falls) is ranked 9th with a throw of 158-11.
2012 Wayne Invitational Preview - Boys
The 2012 Wayne Invitational will be a true balance of sprints, hurdles, distance and field events. There will be a cast of new individual champions since only two athletes return to defend their title, Jacob Dumford of Westerville North in the 800m and Michael Shiverdecker of Wayne in the Pole Vault.
