Mariah Georgetown wins the heptathlon at Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, TN – McNeese State's Mariah Georgetown won the heptathlon at the University of Tennessee hosted SeaRay Relays with a  school record 5,099 points Thursday.

She had entered the second day of the two-day, seven event outing with a 103 point lead and scored 1,850 points for the title.

On Thursday the Cowgirl sophomore finished second in the javelin event with a throw of 96-6, was fourth in the 800 meters with a 2:25.69 time and was fifth in the long jump at 17-4.

Wednesday's performance had Georgetown winning the 100 meter high hurdles with a school record 13.68 clocking, finishing first in the 200 meters at 24.82 and tying for first in the high jump at 5-3.25.

She  also placed fourth in the shot put event with a throw of 35-1.

Taking second in the heptathlon with 4,974 points was Akvia McSwain of UBA.

A native of Baker, LA, Georgetown  is the top ranked performer in the heptathlon in the Southland Conference.
