Middle School Students Admitted Free to MWC Championships

The US Air Force Academy is inviting middle school age and under youth to come to the Mountain West Conference Championships this weekend for free. Students need to bring a valid student ID for admission.

This note comes from Air Force Academy Track and Field Coach Ralph Lindeman:

Friday and Saturday, May 11-12, the Air Force Academy will be hosting 7 other NCAA Division I universities for the Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.  Men's and Women's teams from the Air Force Academy, Boise State, Colorado State, New Mexico, UNLV, San Diego State, TCU, and Wyoming will compete.

Our Conference has agreed to invite "youth" 8th grade & under to get in the event free with a valid school ID!   (NOTE: NCAA rules prohibit us to do the same for high school-age, as once they reach 9th grade they are classified as "prospective student-athletes!)  Nevertheless, high school students can also attend for a nominal $5 student charge (adults are $10).

I'm confident that if your students are exposed to this level of competition, along with all the pageantry of a Conference Championship-level track meet, they, too, will gain an unprecedented appreciation of our sport and maybe inspire them to pursue some goals and dreams of their own in athletics.  By the way, we'll have the reigning World Champion in the Women's 1500m, Jenny Simpson, the 1996 Olympic Champion in the 110 meter Hurdles, Allen Johnson, and a number of other former Olympians and MW Conference Champions from past years present for some of the award presentations!
