School records expected to fall at Friday's McNeese Indoor II meet.

LAKE CHARLES – School records are expected to fall on Friday for McNeese State when it hosts its second and final indoor meet of the season at the Ralph O. Ward Recreation Complex on the McNeese campus.

Already this season, the Cowboys and Cowgirls have combined to break five school records with two of those coming in the same event.

The meet will get started at 11 a.m. with the women's weight throw and men's shot put.  Running events will start at 4 with the men's and women's 55 meter dash and 55 meter hurdles.

“This will be an exciting meet,” said head coach Brendon Gilroy.  “We'll have close to 500 athletes representing 10 schools and we're expecting to see some really good performances.”

One of those events to keep an eye on will be the men's 1-mile run where the Cowboys will be attempting to break the 4-minute mile.

“We're going to go for it was Alex Bruce-Littlewood,” said Gilory.  “We'll have some runners set the pace early on then another runner take over the pace late before Alex lets it go.  We were hoping to have David Rooney running in it but he's nursing a minor injury.”

That race is expected to start at 6 p.m.

Through two weeks, McNeese has seven athletes that rank number one in the Southland Conference in their respected events.

Bruce-Littlewood tops the league in the 800 with a 1:53.53 he ran at last week's Houston Howie Ryan Indoor.  Also on the men's side, distance runner Martin Delguste tops the rankings in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:26.82 that was clocked two weeks ago at the McNeese Indoor I meet.

On the women's side, Jasmine Webb, who set a new school record with a 7.60 in the 60 meters last week, ranks No. 1 in that event and is the reigning conference female track athlete of the week.  Hurdler Jasmine George sits atop the rankings in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.78.

In the field events, school record holder in the weight throw La'Shantena Rounds tops the conference with her school record 61-11 mark she set last week while Jasmine Cornelius (19-2.75 in the long jump) and Jacqueline Berry (39-6.5 in the triple jump) also rank first in the league in those events.
