It's time to play some Fantasy Cross-Country! Basically, you will pick 10 runners, and that will be your team. After the State meets have gone by, a virtual meet will be done using your runner's best times, scoring your top 5 and displacing 2. Your other 3 are just for back up, in case one of your runners get injured or something. Scoring Each Monday, starting September 2nd, a virtual meet will be done using your runner's best times. The person's team that wins will add 1pt to their total, and the person who's team got 2nd will add 2pts, etc. Each week, these points will be added to players totals. After the State meets, a final virtual meet will be done. The score a player's team gets in that virtual meet, combined with a player's total of points throughout the season, will be their final, total score. So, for example, let's say Player A did very well in choosing his athletes, and most weeks, in the virtual meet, he only scored around 1 or 2pts, and gets a total of 20pts before the final meet. Right before the State meet, Player A's athlete's run some ridiculously amazing times, and on the final virtual meet, he has the top 7 fastest runners, so he scores a perfect 15pts. His final score is 35pts (20 + 15). You may do a boys team, and a girls team. A winner will be crowned for each gender. Choosing your Athletes The catch is, you can't just pick the top 10 fastest guys or girls. Each player is awarded 450 choosing points. You may only spend 450pts on picking your athletes, so spend them wisely! Players are worth a specific amount of points, based solely on their returning 5k time from 2011 (so, if you know a certain athlete improved a lot in track, putting your points towards them will be a good deal!). The cost of athletes are decided on the scoring table, as follows: Boys Under 15:45.99....100pts 15:46-16:00.99....90pts 16:01-16:10.99....80pts 16:11-16:20.99....70pts 16:21-16:30.99....60pts 16:31-16:40.99....50pts 16:41-18:59.99....40pts 19:00 or higher...Free Girls Under 17:50.99....100pts 17:51-18:34.99....90pts 18:35-18:49.99....80pts 18:50-19:09.99....70pts 19:10-19:29.99....60pts 19:30-19:49.99....50pts 19:50-21:59.99....40pts 23:00 or higher...Free Make sure that your Athlete's points total no more than 450!!!!!! Otherwise, I'll have to exchange some of yours with free ones. Additional Comments - People may have the same athletes on their fantasy teams. They will just score the same amount of points in meets. - Be strategic! Know that if you get someone from a Fayetteville school, they may run on Jack Britt's course. If you get someone who doesn't go to a lot of invitationals or whose school doesn't post all their meets, then you may rack up some points in the first few weeks. Check out Track times, and go on to dyestat, and check out some major invitational results. Post your team(s) below before August 25th, which is this Saturday. I'll do a preseason virtual meet that weekend, to make things more interesting. Good Luck!

Are athletes aloud to play? Or is this a coach only thing? Also I feel as though the scoring should be done differently. I mean for the girls league a national elite girl is just 40 points, that kinda sounds cheap. But that's just how I view it. Either way this sounds like an amazing idea!

@Paddy53 Thanks for the input! I just came up with this on the spot, and your probably right. And yes, athletes are allowed to play. I'm in high school myself. The only reason I scored girls that way was because of how strong the girls are in this state, making it about even with the guys. I'll adjust that real quick.

@bplancast thanks for the reply, are we aloud to enter athletes not in mile splits database yet? Such as an upcoming freshman that has not had the chance to race yet. Also could we install a one week grace period in case a drafted athlete moves, is unfortunately injured, or decides to not compete this year for what ever reason. I also think that athletes below a certain time (16:20?) can only belong on one team. That way you could trade athletes like in an actual fantasy league. Just some quick thoughts I came up with, hope this goes well.

@Paddy53 I think those are all great ideas, but I think it might be a little bit too complicated for a first run. At least it is for me, anyway. Maybe we can try that next year, or even during track season, if this actually works. And yes, you may use incoming freshman. You gathered some secret insider information that others may not know about, so your efforts are rewarded. And unless they already have a time posted on milesplit here, they are free. Lucky you! I'm pretty sure @theeraser21 used an incoming freshman, right? Also, I adjusted the girls times. It just blows me away how many fast girls there are in this state. Thanks!

So far, only one person hasn't chosen Bakri Abushouk. He's a good deal, for 90pts.

Question: in the weekly virtual meets, is the scoring based on the athlete's time that week, or on the athlete's best time of the season to that point?

@CoachGeorgeRJR It will be their best time in the season at that point. So, if for the first week, your guy runs 16:00, then the next week, he runs 16:30, then the 16:00 will still be used. But even if their best time from last year was 15:45, 16:00 is still used.
