Last Chance: To Do The Last Dance

Theoretically, the theme of this meet is to bring into focus every athlete’s dream of competing on a national level. The host—Embry Riddle—and several of the teams competing, of course, were looking towards the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships (February 28 to March 2nd, at Spire Institute, in Geneva, Ohio). If they had not already, this meet was their “last chance” to register an “A” (automatic) or “B” standard. In reality, 23 athletes met one standard or other in this meet-- by my count--either individually, or as part of a relay.

New York Reclaims National Leaders And More At Millrose

MileSplit NY - Have you had time to catch your breath yet?  We still are catching up on all the records broken last night, from Section, to High School, to American.  And if one thing was clear, New York was ready to represent, retaking two National leading times, and lowering two more, in addition to a new nation leading high jump from Section 5 earlier in the day.  Oh, and Mary Cain ran fast as well, breaking four total records in the width of under 5-minutes.  First, she lowered her career best in the full mile to 4:28.25, which breaks the American High School record, as well as the US Junior record.  Likewise, Cain took out the 1500m record en route, after she split 4:11.72, which also takes down both the 1500m Indoor High School and US  Junior records as well.  Shockingly, the split was very close to the Outdoor record Cain had set at 4:11.01 last year, before entering the tutelage of Alberto Salazar.  Crazy to think what the junior may be capable of this spring, as she looks to have only one more Indoor meet left on the docket, out in Albuquerque.

Meet Your Millrose Milers

Manhattan NY - It is almost time for the 106th annual Millrose Games.  Billed as the oldest Track and Field meet in the country, all those who are attending will be in for a treat.  More Olympians than you have fingers and toes, the pro fields are stacked with top talent.  The high school fields are just as stacked, with events starting at 3:30pm, running right past 10pm.  Two notable prep names have even emerged among the professional ranks, as Mary Cain (Unattached) will race the professional mile, and Edward Cheserek (St. Benedict's Prep) is entered in the professional 2-mile.  You'll have your chance to catch your favorite relays and races, but everyone knows Millrose is all about the mile.  The prestigious Millrose Mile for prep athletes have garnered a reputation as the premiere event of the indoor season.  And we have a quick breakdown of all the top seeds and favorites, both prep and pro.  Check it out below!

Centrowitz Eyes History in Wanamaker Return | NYRR

Before making his NYRR Wanamaker Mile debut at last year’s Millrose Games, Matthew Centrowitz said that he’d been dreaming of the moment for years. “I’ve been wanting to participate in it since high school,” he told Ken Goe of The Oregonion. “I can’t believe the day is finally here.”

The Millrose Mile - What Will It Take?

The Armory Foundation has released the qualifying procedures for the Larry Byrne Boys' and High School Girls' Miles to be contested at the Millrose Games on Feb. 16, 2013. Take a look and plot your strategies. (via Armory Track)
