Oklahoma junior Tia Brooks and Arizona sophomore Lawi Lalang have been named the MileSplit U National Performers of the Week.
Brooks won the shot put at the Drake Relays in a meet record throw of 60 feet, 7.25. The previous Drake Relays record of 58-0.5 stood for 12 years before Saturday, which was set by Nebraska's Tressa Thompson in 1998. Brooks had a series of throws at 59-9.5, 59-10.25, 60-3.25 and 60-7.25. Her performance ranks No.1 in the NCAA this season.
Lalang ran the nation's fastest 1500 time in a fourth-place finish against the pros at the Payton Jordan Invitational. He posted the best time by a collegiate in Sunday's meet at 3:36.77. Lalang finished ahead of several professionals in the process including Craig Miller ( 3:37.48), Jeff See (3:37.60) and Alan Webb (3:38.86).
