The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced Thursday nine finalists for its NCAA Woman of the Year Award. Among the nine finalists were two cross country athletes in Kate Griewisch and Alexi Pappas.
Griewisch is a biology major from Lenoir-Rhyne. She is a five-time All-American in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track.
Pappas is a Creative Writing and English major from Dartmouth. A two-time All-American, Pappas ran the lead leg on Dartmouth's third-place DMR team at the 2012 indoor championships and place third at the outdoor championships in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
Griewisch and Pappas and the remaining finalist were selected based on academic performance, excellence in athletics and dedication in the community and leadership.
