The Florida State men's and women's cross country programs swept the NCAA South Regional meet for the second-straight year on Friday. Competiting on their home course at Apalachee Regional Park, the Seminole teams earned automatic bids to next week's NCAA Championships.
Top-ranked FSU women eased through the competition effortlessly, to win their third regional title in a row. Florida State swept the top three spots with Violah Lagat (20:06), Collen Quigley (20:12), and Amanda Winslow (20:13, defeating second-place Vanderbilt by an 88 point margin (24-112). The Noles also grabbed the eighth and tenth postions, placing Kayleigh Tymerman (20:22) and Georgia Peel (20:25).
FSU men nearly matched their women's team performance, as they swept the 1-2 spots and placed runners in the 4,9, and 11 positions. Jacob Zivec and Brandon O'Neill both ran identical times of 30:23 to lead the 1-2 punch for the Noles. Seth Proctor and David Forrester finished in ninth and tenth, with times of 30:44 and 30:48, resepectively. Florida State scored 48 points to Georgia's 67 points, to secure the South Regional crown.
