Florida State head women's cross country coach Karen Harvey was gracious enough to sit down with us recently for the following Q&A session. See what Coach Harvey had to say about her team as they make their final preparations  for this week's NCAA meet.

MileSplit U: Congratulations to you and your team for defending your NCAA South Regional title. It was an impressive performance by all that did not go unnoticed. What are your thoughts on the overall performance of the team?

Coach Harvey: It was a Great collective effort, very controlled for 4k. About a mile to go we decided to challenge ourselves a bit. The plan worked well without taxing them (the athletes) too much.

MileSplit U: Were there any indications that your ladies would run as well as they did?

Coach Harvey: I was a little surprised how easy and sharp they looked. We had back to back hard workouts Monday and Tuesday. I had a feeling we could squeeze in some last minutes prep for NCAAs and still be okay for the South Region race. Glad it worked!

MileSplit U: What is different about this year's team than in years past?

Coach Harvey: Maturity and experience. Plus a lot, a lot of talent. Also having my husband, Kevin Sullivan, comeback on staff has been huge. He has pushed them in all workouts and just been an amazing positive presence.

MileSplit U: Your team has been picked to win the NCAA title all season. How has your team handled the expectations of being the favorite?

Coach Harvey: To quote my husband "if you can't handle the pressure you don't deserve to win."

MileSplit: Finally, what would it mean to you and your team to end the season with a national title?

Coach Harvey: Obviously it would be incredible and an honor, but it's all about race day and is going to be a war for 20 minutes. There is going to be adversity and chaos but I believe our ladies are ready to handle this challenge.

MileSplit U: Coach Harvey, thank you for your time and willingness to speak with us. Good luck to you and your team at Nationals!
